Index Modulation Pattern Design for Non-Orthogonal Multicarrier Signal Waveforms

Spectral efficiency improvement is a key focus in most wireless communication systems and achieved by various means such as using large antenna arrays and/or advanced modulation schemes signal formats. This work proposes to further improve spectral through combining non-orthogonal spectrally efficient frequency division multiplexing (SEFDM) with index (IM), which can efficiently make use of the indices activated subcarriers information. Recent research has verified that IM may be used SEFDM alleviate inter-carrier interference (ICI) error performance. new formats based on novel activation pattern designs, limit locations enable variable number each subblock. SEFDM-IM system designs are developed jointly considering patterns, waveform formats, set solutions evaluated under different scenarios. Detailed modelling coded simulation studies reveal proposed not only lead better bit rate (BER) but also lower peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduced computational complexity relative other reported index-modulated systems.
